In a few weeks, the nicest and cosiest time of the year will be upon us again; Christmas! The streets and squares will slowly become more atmospheric with cosy lights and decorated Christmas trees. Do you also fancy the smell of hot chocolate, mulled wine and freshly baked waffles? Then be sure to visit one of the many Christmas markets in the Netherlands this year! Christmas city Valkenburg

Kerststad Valkenburg is perhaps the most famous Christmas market in the Netherlands. From 15 November 2024 to 5 January 2025, Valkenburg will be transformed into a true Christmas paradise. You will find various Christmas markets both above and below ground, including in the Gemeentegrot and Fluweelengrotte. Be enchanted by atmospheric lights, the Christmas story and metre-long miniature villages. The Christmas Parade, every Wednesday and Saturday evening, is also worth a visit!

Magical Maastricht

Not far from Valkenburg, you will find the Vrijthof square in Maastricht. From 28 November to 30 December 2024, you can enjoy the unique Christmas atmosphere on the most beautiful square in the Netherlands. During this period, Vrijthof will be transformed into Magical Maastricht, a winter wonderland full of atmospheric lights, cosy wooden stalls and attractions such as a Ferris wheel and skating rink. Fun for the little ones, too!

Tip: turn a visit to the south of the Netherlands into a true getaway and combine Magical Maastricht with Christmas Town Valkenburg during a weekend break or short holiday!

IJM's Christmas market

The fifth edition of the IJzeren Man Christmas Market will take place on 7, 8, 14 and 15 December. Located on the waterfront of the IJzeren Man in Vught, this Christmas market offers a cosy atmosphere with festive lighting, live performances, 200 wooden stalls and (warm) delicacies. The ideal place to do some Christmas shopping in advance! You will also find, until 19 January 2025, IJM's Winter Paradise. Come skate, play a game of curling and enjoy the fun!

Résidence de Leuvert is within walking distance of the IJzeren Man, which makes it the ideal place to spend the night. Visit the Winter Efteling, for example!

Christmas Fair Vorden

From 6 to 8 December 2024, Christmas Fair Vorden will take place in Vorden Castle. The Castle will be transformed into a magical Christmas paradise with thousands of lights, garlands, decorated Christmas trees and, of course, winter delicacies. During this Christmas fair, all the ingredients are present to shop for Christmas gifts and decorations.

Winter in the Dutch Open Air Museum

Go back in time and experience the winter of old at the Dutch Open Air Museum! From 7 December 2024 to 19 January 2025, the Dutch Open Air Museum in Arnhem will host a nostalgic Winter Fair with roller skating rink, carousel, flea circus and more! The Zaanse Plein will host a cosy winter market. A great outing for the whole family!
