Underground expansion Palace Het Loo

After a four-year renovation of the palace and its gardens, it reopened to the public in April 2022. This year is marked by a grande opening. Also, Apeldoorn will also be in the spotlight for five days in March with the first edition of the Royal Light Festival taking place between the city centre and Palace Het Loo. Resort Veluwe and Recreatiepark Beekbergen are located a short distance from Het Loo Palace. From Resort Veluwe, you can reach Palace Het Loo after 20 kilometres and from Recreatiepark Beekbergen after 12 kilometres.

Completely renovated and ultramodern museum

While the palace remains as much as possible in its original state after the extensive renovation, the new underground section is actually hyper-modern. The new section covers 5,000 m², is located under the forecourt and features an impressive glass roof. The extension has created additional space for exhibitions. Among other things, there will be a beautiful museum shop and a catering facility. For the youngest visitors, there will be a Junior Palace. The underground section will be directly connected to the palace.

Discover the secrets of the palace and its gardens

Your visit to Het Loo Palace will take you back to the seventeenth century. The various rooms and halls have a typical seventeenth-century appearance. Upon arrival at the palace, an introductory film will be waiting for you after which you can start a walk to the first exhibition. You will have the opportunity to choose from two palace routes, east or west. In the magnificent gardens, woods and stables of the palace, you will find royal carriages, sleighs, cars, woods and a beautiful pond.

In the spotlight with the Royal Light Festival

This year, Apeldoorn will be put in the spotlight from 15 to 19 March with the very first edition of the Royal Light Festival. During this free light festival, the story of royal Apeldoorn will be told. You will take a beautiful walk past various royal locations, such as the Grote Kerk, the Raadhuisplein and the Naald where all locations will be adorned by light artworks by various light artists. In doing so, the story of the city of Apeldoorn is told in an approachable and modern way. This festival brings culture, art and history together.
