Dutch opt again for holiday at home

For years, holidays in their own country have been hugely popular among the Dutch. The uncertainties surrounding COVID-19 have given an extra boost to these so-called staycations. In 2022, holidaymakers will once again opt for a holiday close to home, according to representative research by the ANWB. Almost half of holidaymakers (43%) say they will not cross the border this year. Our own country is mentioned as the number one holiday destination. The Mediterranean and distant air travel remain out.

As many as 8 in 10 Dutch people say they want to go on holiday at least once this year. The Netherlands is the most popular holiday country this year, followed by Germany, France, Spain and Belgium. In short: a holiday close to home! Why? In recent years, our beautiful country has been rediscovered and people found out how beautiful the Netherlands actually is.
