The Posbank is a nature reserve located in Rheden, near Arnhem. The nature reserve is part of the Veluwezoom National Park and well-known territory for cyclists and hikers. According to many, the area is even one of the most beautiful pieces of nature in the Netherlands.

The nature reserve owes its name to the stone monumental bench 'De Posbank', which offers a beautiful view over National Park Veluwezoom. The bench is placed on a 90-metre high point and offers a beautiful view over the Veluwe landscape and various cities such as Arnhem and Apeldoorn. Heathlands, forest edges and trees as far as you can see. If you are lucky, you might even spot one of the wild animals that live on the Posbank such as Scottish Highlanders, boars, sheep herds and deer. The Posbank is a perfect place for a lovely walk, with a choice of different distances. On a hike through the beautiful nature reserve, you will brave various peaks and valleys of the famous heath hills. Chances are that the next day you will feel your calves from the many inclines, but it will be worth it. Try the 5-kilometre circular walk that starts from the Veluwezoom visitor centre. Or walk 11 kilometres on the Posbank and the surroundings of Rheden.

2. Ideal for cycling

If you want to enjoy Dutch nature to the full on a cycling trip, the Posbank is the place to be. Explore the many cycling routes and enjoy the peace and quiet of the nature reserve without being disturbed by cars or other motor vehicles. The cycle paths lead you over the beautiful moorland hills through the nature of the Veluwe. Along the way, you will come across plenty of benches where you can enjoy the beautiful views, but you can also stop at the stone monumental bench (the Posbank). One of the best-known and most frequently ridden cycling routes is the 46-kilometre 'Rondje Posbank' route. The tour leads you through the beautiful Veluwe countryside with some tough climbs before descending again. If this route is too much for you, there are plenty of other enjoyable routes. Walking route Veluwezoom - Posbank (5 kilometres)
Walk from the Veluwezoom visitor centre across vast heathlands and pass a viewpoint which you can reach by a zigzag path. Then continue your walk towards the Kraaijenberg, where you can rest on one of the benches after a tough climb. When you have rested long enough, you will continue walking to the highest point of the route, the Posbank. After a good walk across the heathland, you will return to the woods and return to the visitor centre.

Walking route Veluwezoom - Rheden (11 kilometres)
This wooded route takes you right through the Veluwezoom National Park. You first walk through a hilly area that used to belong to the hunting domain of the Princes of Orange. Next, you will discover the impressive heathland at the Posbank and enjoy the beautiful views. You then continue your route to your final destination Rheden.

Cycle route 'Rondje Posbank' (46 kilometres)
This cycle route leads you through the municipality of Rheden and the surroundings of the beautiful Veluwezoom. During the route, you will of course also pass the almost 90-metre-high Posbank, where you will have stunning views of the surrounding area. On the route you will find some nice climbs that will make you feel your calves the next day. On the route, you will not only encounter hilly landscapes, but you can also get a breath of fresh air along the river IJssel.
