Last weekend, Saturday 13 and Sunday 14 April, feel-good blogger Curvacious.nl stayed with her family at TopParken at Landgoed de Scheleberg. She wrote a fun blog about it.

A weekend away @TopParken Landgoed de Scheleberg

If you follow me on social media then you must have caught it: the four of us went away for the first time. We spent a weekend at TopParken Landgoed de Scheleberg in Lunteren by invitation. Practically around the corner from home but still a real holiday feeling. In this article, I would like to tell you more about the park, our experience and what we did that weekend!

In the middle of the Veluwe, on the edge of the forest in Lunteren, lies the beautifully landscaped TopParken Landgoed de Scheleberg. A holiday park where you won't be bored for a moment, if only because you can go directly into the beautiful countryside for hiking and cycling. On the park itself, there is also plenty to do. From a tennis court, football pitch, table tennis table, volleyball court and playground to a heated outdoor swimming pool and children's pool with sunbathing area, in high season an entertainment programme, kids' club and animation team and a very good restaurant with a terrace.

From the moment you enter the estate - through a beautiful gate and long tree-lined avenue - you really feel like 'getting away from it all'. It is clear that a lot of attention has been paid to the construction of the hard roads, the reception and the restaurant, but certainly also the accommodation and the greenery around it look very well maintained. Oh, and hats off to all the staff! For what a warm welcome, friendliness and service when you check in and/or have questions.

The accommodation

We ourselves stayed in the comfort type for 5 people with an open-plan kitchen equipped with everything you need, a spacious living room, bathroom with walk-in shower, a bedroom with bunk beds and a single bed, a bedroom with a spacious double bed and a nice terrace next to it. It is clear that a lot of attention to detail has been paid on the inside too. In fact, it feels very homely and 'finished' because they have worked with beautiful materials and nice details in terms of furnishing and styling. Leather chairs, beautiful designer furniture, accessories, plants, beds made up as standard on arrival, very good Wifi and even a rug on the sofa. Very nice to have such a beautiful place in the middle of nature as a home base!

The area

As a nature lover, this environment will really make you very happy. You are in the middle of the Veluwe in the woods of Lunteren. You can go for lovely walks and/or cycle rides and you are within easy reach of National Park De Hoge Veluwe with, for example, the Kröller-Müller Museum and the Museonder. We took a lovely walk here (so nice with Cate in the baby carrier so no hassle with bumpy forest paths and a pram) and even took a bike ride on the famous white bikes in this beautiful piece of nature.

Of course, there are many villages and towns in the immediate area like Ede, Otterlo, Bennekom to visit but we chose to go to Ouwehands Dierenpark. This is one of our favourite zoos in the Netherlands and we visit a few times every year. The giant pandas remain imposing to see, there were cubs to spot here and there, the sea lion show is great fun, watching feeding moments remains Shae's favourite (especially with the monkeys!), playing in RavotAapia - Europe's largest indoor play jungle - and eating poffertjes at the bear forest complete the outing.

Restaurant @ The Park Asia

The weekend we stayed there, the new restaurant at Scheleberg Estate opened: @the Park Asia. As you can expect from the name, you can find a mainly Asian menu. Paul and I are both huge fans of this, so we thoroughly enjoyed it! From super-fresh sushi, dry-aged beef, tasty dishes from the tipan plate... and a delicious dessert menu with fresh fruit, different ice-cream flavours or you can finish it off with one of the many coffee varieties. We had a lovely lunch here with sashimi salads and fresh bread and breakfast on Sunday morning (love extended breakfast buffets!) and both nights we really dined more than deliciously. One evening we went for the surprise menu (so, so, so fingerlicking good!) and the other evening for a dish from the menu. Both times it was delicious and we can definitely recommend this restaurant if you are staying in (the vicinity of) the park.

Too nice by the way that time was taken to tell a bit more about certain dishes, the origin of ingredients and to ask about personal wishes when preparing a piece of meat or fish. And then in addition, loving attention to our children. Some got extra petties and smiles, others got drawing material, were allowed into the kitchen and got a treat here and there :)

In the highlights on Instagram, under the heading The Scheleberg, you can see some more personal photos and videos from the weekend away.

Of course, it was a bit exciting to go on a weekend trip as a family of four for the first time. Because of Cate's hidden reflux and therefore restlessness, there is still not much rhythm in the days and that gave me some worries beforehand. But it ended up being a very nice weekend full of quality time together, doing fun things and enjoying nature. We decided to leave things as they were, plan as many things as possible in between Cate's naps and just go with the flow of the day. And that worked out really well. Our girls both did really well and after the weekend we even felt as if we had been away for a longer time. Yes, such trips as a family are worth their weight in gold! ♥

Love,
Desirée
